Preston Angell
Founder, Head Brewer
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Preston made his way to beautiful Santa Barbara in 2005 to attend Westmont College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and began preparing to enroll in medical school. While working at a dermatologist office and lab, he began to explore in home brewing. “The molecular science involved in brewing is what fascinates me; I get to use my educational experience and make beer!” After countless successful home brew batches that friends and family praised, the team decided that it was time to make beer for a career. Captain Fatty’s Craft Brewery was formed and the beer produced continues to reflect Preston’s zeal for making great beer that brings a smile to the drinker.
Matt Minkus
Creative Director, Part-Owner
A surfer and adventurer from Hermosa Beach, CA, Matt has been in and out of Santa Barbara for the past 9 years. “I always find myself back in Santa Barbara for the community, culture, and coastal scenery.” From fine carpentry to youth camp counseling, to selling Hyundais, he’s done a bit of everything. “Selling beer is way more fun than selling cars, but both jobs entail the ‘test drive,’ which is my favorite part.” Matt has cultivated a love for beer and hospitality into a unique experience for beer drinkers in the 805.
